![]() ![]() ![]() or was it Eurasia? Winston is no revolutionary, but just an ordinary man in his 40's, who only resist the Party in small ways like keeping a journal. It is about a man Winston who works for a the Ministry of Truth, the Party's propaganda aperatus while constantly committing thoughtcrime, meaning having unorthodox thoughts such as knowing that rations went down not up as the party claims, or knowing that Ociania has not always been at war with Eastasia. And for the love of god, please read this novel. Not to flip through and put it on the shelf to show the visitors that you are a man of culture as well, but to really read it page by page. So what am I here to do? I want to tell you to go out and get a copy of Nineteen Eighty-Four. But I am not here to relate it to current events, there are many people who have done that in great detail. It has many things to say about authoritarianism, technology and truth, both objective and subjective and is very much still relevant even more then 70 years after publication. The english novel is a dystopian warning, not to accept something that is not true, just because you are told or ordered to. Nineteen Eighty-Four is a flawed masterpiece, written by George Orwell in 1948. I assume everyone here has read the novel already but just wanted to post this here to see, if any people out there share my view. So a while back we had this assignment in English class, to write an essay about 1984 and weather we would recommend it. ![]()
